Welcome Back!
We are starting this semester with a few review items. We will be using the data collected from a mid-year assessment to work on problem areas.
We've had to change our routine a little bit to accommodate guided reading groups that have been formed to better serve our students in the area of reading. Study lists will now go home on Thursdays, and quizzes will be the following Wednesdays.
I cannot emphasize the importance of reading. Reading affects academic success in all subject areas. Students cannot answer questions correctly if they cannot read the questions and understand what the question requires them to do. Math even has word problems that require reading skills. The best way to help your child is to set aside to read with him or her every school night. Read together. Have your child read a loud so that you can help with pronunciation. Quiz your child afterward to make he or she understands the material. Practice, practice, practice! Together we will get them ready not just for tests but for the rest of their academic careers and beyond.
